Department of Science and Humanities
The Department of Science and Humanities offers a synthesis of teaching and training from the time the students get enrolled in their branches. Well spaced Physics and Chemistry Laboratories equipped with adequate instruments adds value to the basic science department. Plethora of posters on various topics displayed in the department explains various concepts in a simple and lucid way that enthralls the students.

Imported instruments like screw gauge, vernier caliper, digital clock and ultrasonic based instruments are the icing on the cake of the status of the department. Every student uses the equipments and are not just passive observers as student's hands-on experience is valued very highly. An environment that combines friendly atmosphere with leading-edge facilities characterizes the department. The flagship objective of the Department is to train the young minds to explore the new horizons.

The state-of-the-art laboratories in SECE facilitate the training and teaching of student in various streams to the level of industry expectations.

The labs cater to the needs of the students studying in respective departments, are equipped with latest machinery/ equipment/instruments. Our laboratories comply with the International standard which helps the students to be well conversant with the various instruments. By handling the most sophisticated equipments, the students build up a high confidence level, which benefits them in the long run. Some of the major facilities available are:

The labs are fully established including, Electrical Machines, Electrical Control systems lab, Electrical Measurements lab, Network theory lab and Simulation lab. The students are trained on house and industrial wiring systems, PCB making, winding study of the motor.

In the Introductory Electronics laboratory, students learn about the basic principles of analog and digital circuit design and operations in a practical, real-world laboratory setting. The rapid world-wide expansion and development of electronic systems, techniques and devices provides the background for exciting applications-based courses in Electronics Engineering. Industry requires a large number of engineers to pioneer new developments, to undertake design and supervise production, to market, and to install and operate equipment. Electronics lab is equipped with the latest apparatus and devices so as to meet the latest technological trends currently used in the industry. The courses, aimed at the Lab are to give the student practical experience in working with resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, operational amplifiers and integrated circuits. The laboratory integrates the theory taught in the lectures with practical design, and helps the student to apply his or her knowledge of electronics. List of experiments include the verification of logic gates and logic circuits; characteristics of diodes, BJTs and FETs: amplifiers and network theorems etc. In addition, they become familiar with the operation of basic electronic test equipment like digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators and curve tracers etc..

The Department of Science and Humanities also houses a full-fledged Language Laboratory which has been specially designed for student-teacher interaction, and greater concentration for language learning. It is specially designed for Beginners & Basic Learners. It offers a variety of functions such as Recording, Test Preparation, Student Monitoring, Group Conferencing, Vocubalary building techniques etc.

The Language Laboratory is also used for language tutorials. These are attended by Preparatory Course students and students who voluntarily opt for Remedial English classes. This especially benefits students who are deficient in English and also aims at confidence-building for interviews and competitive examinations. The Language Laboratory sessions also include word games, quizzes, extemporary speaking, debates, skits etc. These sessions are complemented by online learning sessions which take place in the Multi-Purpose Computer Lab.

The Physics Laboratory operates within the Department of Science & Humanities. The Physics Laboratory is spacious, well-equipped and air-conditioned. A separate dark room is attached for the conduct of optics experiments. All the experiments are designed to correlate theoretical knowledge with the practical applications. A maximum of four students perform experiments on a single set up. A computer simulation of the difficult experiments is also demonstrated to the students for better understanding of the concepts.

The objectives of Computer Centre have always been to be in the forefront of utilization of IT and leverage its power in making learning informative & enjoyable..A fully air conditioned computer laboratory is equipped with high-end branded computers and wide screen 17" TFT monitors with The Students Computer machine ratio of 1:1 implying complete accessibility. It is networked and supported by online UPS systems with backup facility. SECE is a fully wired campus and consists of high-speed fiber-optic backbone connected to the internal network through a high-end gigabit Ethernet switch.

The intranet facility also enables knowledge sharing among students. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled for their exclusive use. A fast and efficient Wi-Fi connecting different buildings of the campus is well in place which connects all the computers in the various computer labs, faculty rooms, class rooms, academic block, administration Block, Library and hostels. To facilitate hard copy printing, network printers in the form of laser printers are installed in various computer labs and other academic and administration blocks.

The Engineering Practices Laboratory Widely opens the door to the budding engineers, exposes them to the various Engineering practices. It provides an introduction and appreciation of simple workshop procedures such as marking out, cutting, drilling, plumbing and welding. Essential information on how to use tools, fabricate components from metal and plastic is taught. It also covers workshop safety measures, how to use common and specialist tools, how to use equipment and gauges. This Lab enhances their knowledge and interest in the ever expanding terrain of Engineering and Technology.

Keeping in view the recent developments in Science and the present needs in industries, the Chemical Laboratory Technology program has been framed so that the future Engineers acquire practical laboratory techniques as well as applied theoretical principles necessary for a successful career in today's chemical industry.
